Is There a New Apple Tablet on the Horizon?
The iPad has become one of Apple’s great success stories. They have turned the tablet, a gadget once resigned to the technology graveyard, into a must-own piece of kit. Such is the excitement surrounding Apple’s products that, since the release of the iPad 2 in March, there has been a frenzied anticipation surrounding what features the next incarnation of the tablet will have.
Unfortunately, Apple’s legion of fans may have to wait for the iPad 3. It’s unlikely to see a release date until 2012. However, rumours abound that an updated version of the iPad 2, preliminarily called the ‘iPad 2 plus’, is slated for release in the coming months. Unlikely to feature more than minor updates on the features of the iPad 2, the iPad 2 plus is likely to calm the tide of Apple fans who may have a longer than anticipated wait for the iPad 3.
The iPad 3 was rumoured to feature an A6 quad core processor, ensuring the tablet is capable of processing apps, data, and all the new features that iOS 5 will bring at lightning fast speed. However, some have debated whether Apple will actually port these features to the iPad 2 plus, making the iPad 3 even more powerful.
One feature that the iPad 2 plus and the iPad 3 will have is a significantly improved screen resolution. Rumours have stated that Apple and Samsung may put their well-publicised rivalry aside and collaborate on a Super AMOLED screen for the new tablet. A huge hit on the Galaxy smartphones, Samsung’s AMOLED screens boast a superior display with extremely low power consumption, potentially significantly extending the new iPad’s battery life.
Whether Apple release a new tablet in the coming months, or merely an updated iPad 2, one thing’s for sure; the anticipation and excitement surrounding the brand is unlikely to fade soon.
